Doolittle and illegals

The John Doolittle plan regarding the strengthening of borders (build a fence, expedite immediate removal of all illegal aliens, etc.) throws billions of dollars at the symptoms but does not deal effectively with the core problems. I suggested to him that more time and resources be used to deal with the social and economic issues that create the symptoms. The U.S. Congress and the Mexican government, working with large and small American industries who need Mexican workers, should develop a treaty that takes a positive, proactive position to solve the problem rather than taking harsh, punative, knee-jerk reactions.

Admittedly, attempting to solve problems of social and economic justice is more difficult. And, it may be that we can’t solve 100 percent of the issues. But, we would be better off working together than we would if we built more reasons to be hated by the victims of a police state.
