Don’t repeat mistakes of Vietnam era

Having survived the 1968 Vietnam Tet offensive, I pray every day that the commander in chief of the United States of America, Mr. Bush, not create another provocation or sham excuse for war on Iraq similar to the Gulf of Tonkin incident that launched us into Vietnam.

Dear Mr. Bush, as they say in Missouri, “show me” or show us the evidence for war on Iraq. We all must exercise extreme doubt remembering the deceit, duplicity and dishonesty of previous American government administrations, including the current one.

Rep. Mike Thompson and Sens. Feinstein and Boxer have it right to urge coalition and caution to not launch a holocaust on Iraq.

Do you believe that Mr. Hussein is going to use whatever weapons against America, Israel or other nation? To do so means the total obliteration of Iraq. Would you sacrifice your population and country by freakish idiocy?

If the Israelis can selectively assassinate terrorists, often without the “collateral damage” euphemism for civilian casualties, then with our superior military technology, including “bunker blaster” bombs, we can accomplish the same if Mr. Hussein is absolutely guilty of the allegations as cited by Messrs. Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld.

No war with or on Iraq without clear-cut approval of the Congress and the American people.

M. Andre
