Don’t gag the mouth that prays for you

In response to a recent letter decrying the strong conservative voice given what the citizen considered too much print, I would like to comment.

As a relative newcomer to the area, one of the things I love about the Grass Valley/Nevada City area is the strong sense of community and high regard for family life and young people. I know there are problems here just as anywhere else, but who do you think really cares about these problems and equally celebrates the blessings? In large part it is the Christian community hidden in many different churches, some not attending church at all. It is the people who believe in a power higher than themselves who quietly pray for the drug problems, the homeless problems, the government problems, the environmental problems, the abuse problems, the church problems. True Christians have a knowledge that they are planted in their communities to make them better places not only through prayer, but through the unseen hands-on volunteer work they do in their churches and in the community.

Yes there are hypocrites; aren’t we all? Don’t we all fail to fully live up to the standards we ascribe to? No one is perfect on this earth. Conservatives and liberals share a lot. None of us wants violence and hate in our community. We all want our families and friends and loved ones to be safe and prosper. We all want our rivers to be clean.

A word of warning: don’t gag the mouth that prays for you. Loving it here and working towards and stronger, healthier, healed community.
