Don’t forget real victim

It was reported last week that the defense attorney for Chuck Smith, the defendant in the murder of Julie Biswell, would like Julie’s mental health records. Frankly, I don’t see how her mental health records could be pertinent to Mr. Smith’s case. What I think the defense is doing is trying to build a case against the victim and paint her in a negative light. It’s a tactic we have seen over and over again in recent years.

We have seen it in many high -profile cases, like the O.J. Simpson case, where the defense painted Nicole Simpson negatively. O.J.’s lawyers tried to make O.J. out to be the victim and Nicole to be a drug using hussy. In the current case against Robert Blake, Harlen Braun, Blake’s lawyer, is using the history of Bonnie Lees Bakley, the victim, to build a case that paints Bakley as such an evil person that anyone of us would want to kill her. As if any of these women deserved to be brutally murdered.

And so, it looks as if Smith’s lawyer plans to put my sister on trial, as if she were somehow the bad guy and deserved to be brutally stabbed to death. I think this tactic is disdainful and immoral. Its easy to paint murder victims negatively. They’re not here to defend themselves. They are dead! Let’s not forget who the real victims are in these cases.
