Dog show details

We would like to thank The Union for the story about our AKC Dog Show. Front page recognition of this event is much appreciated.

I would like to clarify a few points. Our entry this year was just under 1,500 dogs per day. They represent the 150 breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club. A winner from each breed is chosen. That winner then goes on to compete in the seven groups all the breeds are divided into by AKC. The winner of each of the seven groups then competes for the much coveted “Best in Show.” The whole process is then repeated the next day under a different set of judges.

Our club does not allow our members or their families to show their dogs or dogs co-owned by them. We feel it would be inappropriate as we hire the judges, pick them up at the airport, then have a “Judges Dinner” for all members.

Also, it takes every member and a lot of hard work to put on this event. Finally, the Earth Dog event put on by the Golden Gate Dachshund Club at our event is a great for spectators. You can see first-hand dogs doing what they were bred to do.
