Do parents have rights?

In this day and age, our children seem to have more rights than we, the parents do. We have no right to know whether they are pregnant or not; we have no say so as to whether they can get an abortion or not; we have no right to have them drug tested, and even if we somehow manage to, it is the child’s decision whether the parent is allowed the test results; we have no right to seek treatment for them.

The only way for us to get them help is if they get into trouble with the law. I don’t understand this. Why wait until they get into trouble? And how much trouble should they be allowed to get into before we are allowed intervention?

Help and guidance must start at home; I realize this. But when we as parents have done all that we can, wouldn’t it be nice to be able to get some outside help?

Please write to our governor about changing these laws. He can be reached by e-mail at: http://www.govmail.ca.gov, or by mail at: Governor Schwarzenegger, State Capitol Building Sacramento, 95814
