Disaster in the making

Loma Rica Ranch is a disaster in the making, a catastrophe that could unleash a tsunami of humanity and traffic that could severely impact our already stressed infrastructure. A well-heeled, slick-talking developer promises an ecologically engineered masterpiece and arrogantly chides us who oppose such ill-conceived projects as being “silly” for trying to hold back the tidal wave of runaway growth.

Whether or not these homes blend into the landscape like mushrooms and are surrounded by miles of walking trails, sooner or later the residents will have to get into their cars and contribute to the traffic problem on Brunswick Road and elsewhere. Every snowstorm would generate a chaotic “bumper car derby” at the Idaho-Maryland Road intersection, with cars littering the road like fallen dominoes.

In my opinion, it would be irresponsible and reckless to approve such a mammoth project because the whole county would be forced to suffer through the consequences of this ill-conceived venture long after the developer has left with both a big smile and a big bankroll.

Mr. “Gotgettybucks” thought his bricklayer parable about “building a cathedral” was clever, but the sad, pathetic reality is that he’s “building a Roseville.”
