Details of tragic death

Important details regarding the accident involving Tyler Lason have not been adequately addressed.

Creekview Drive is a narrow, one-lane road with numerous curves and limited visibility. There is a sign posted on the road that clearly states, “Single Lane Road, Use At Your Own Risk, 15 MPH.” There is no “wrong” side of this road.

Unfortunately, Tyler Lason, a 9-year-old child, was permitted to ride his mini-bike on this dangerous road without parental supervision after numerous neighbors had expressed concerns. Reports stated that the child was speeding and that Dale was traveling the speed limit.

One must question the abilities of a 9-year-old to maneuver a mini-bike effectively on a road that automobiles share, as well. Dale is a responsible, licensed driver with many years of driving experience. He was not drunk-driving, nor was he negligent.

The Traylor family deeply grieves for the loss of a young child and has declined speaking with reporters on the advice of attorneys. An effective use of time and energy would be to allow something positive to come out of this accident, perhaps a reconsideration of current laws regarding private roads and minors on motorcycles.

I cannot say enough good things about Yuba Docs, our urgent care facility in Grass Valley. Saturday about noon, a close relative had a close encounter with a chainsaw resulting in a pretty deep-looking gash…
