Democrats host lecture series

Joseph A. Palermo, a renowned author of political affairs, will be speaking at a Sunday afternoon lecture series hosted by the Democratic Party of Nevada County.

Palermo will be speaking on presidential war powers, “checks and balances” on presidential power, and the “new Machiavellians that currently run the Executive Branch,” according to organizers. He will also address issues of national security and the dominance of corporate power and the war in Iraq.

He is a native Californian who received his B.A. from the University of California, Santa Cruz; an M.A. from San Jose State University; and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Cornell University. He is an assistant professor of American history at California State University, Sacramento, and is currently working on a book about the early political career of Ronald Reagan.

The lecture is open to the public and will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Nevada County Democratic Party Headquarters, 10062 Joerschke Drive in Grass Valley. A minimum donation of $10 is requested.
