Defining fear

The “signs of the times” do advocate fear with respect to how each of us approaches God who is Love. Fear predisposes love. One of the definitions of “fear” in Webster’s is “profound reverence and awe especially toward God.”

Therefore, love and reverent “fear” and awe of God are far from being opposites but are complimentary. To be in the presence of an all loving God is indeed a “fearful” idea or thought. God does not condemn, we condemn ourselves by our actions. We should be more in fear of how we offend God than what He will do to us because his justice is tempered with divine and infinite mercy.
