Defend right to vote

OK, how about this. Just after 9/11, President Bush told us, the American public, that we should not be afraid to get back to our lives. “Go shopping” is what I remember him saying.

OK, so I say to all of you, let’s not let the fear of a terrorist attack stop us from stopping at the polls come November. I urge everyone to think carefully, follow what you know, what you feel in your hearts, and vote. If the leadership tries to deter us from our right to do this, I hope you all pledge to put up a big old stink.

Conservative or liberal and every belief in between, I certainly hope we can agree on the fact we are all Americans, and a component of what makes us a democracy is our right to vote. United we stand; divided we fall. Please, let’s not let anyone or anything get in between our rights and our freedoms.

Kudos to Michael Bader for his [Other Voices column] July 22. Thank you.
