Deaths a tragic loss

I was shocked when I read Wednesday’s The Union. The day before there was mention of a couple who were found dead in their home, but the first article did not mention names. On Wednesday morning, when I read the names Carrie and Ted Theal, I called a friend in tears. I knew both Ted and Carrie. Ted was very important to me. He was my auto body teacher at Sierra Mountain High School. Probably I would never have finished my Model A had it not been for Ted. On top of that, I was going through a hard time emotionally. Ted was always there for me, as he was for all of his students.

We were a mixture of adults and continuation high school students. And Ted was very important to all of us. When one young man who was living with his grandmother wanted to commit suicide, his grandmother called Ted and Ted was over there in a flash. He sponsored some of the students to go on to an automotive school. One young man got a job at Magnussen’s Toyota because of Ted.

We were a cohesive team because of Ted. Perhaps, the first week of the class I was Mrs. Bishop, but after that I was just Diane and Ted was there for all of us. When we needed a painting booth, Ted found an old one and we all worked together scraping the old paint off of the thing and made it usable once again. In exchange for this nasty job, Ted painted my car for me.

I met Carrie a few times. She was charming and it struck me that they were very much in love. Perhaps, that love was so strong that they did not wish to continue in this world. If there is another place, I wish them well and wish that their love will last forever, as does my love for both of them.
