– Kenneth Franklin Lewis, 20, of Grass Valley, pleaded innocent Feb. 17 to charges from two cases.

In the first case, from a Feb. 7 arrest, he pleaded innocent to battery, assault with a deadly weapon and grand theft.

Most recently, he was arrested with John Backus, 18, of Nevada City, Feb. 10 after Grass Valley police detectives raided their East Main Street apartment because they were believed to have stolen a gun the week before.

Lewis pleaded innocent to burglary, two counts of grand theft, resisting arrest, battery and possession of a controlled substance. His bail was set to $25,000, and a preliminary hearing has been set for March 2.

Backus pleaded innocent to possession of a controlled substance and receiving known stolen property. His felony conference was scheduled for Feb. 26.
