COURT SUMMARY

• James Burton Gose, 23, pleaded innocent March 10 to charges of forest land arson, a felony; as well as misdemeanor charges of arson and vandalism. The charges stem from a March 6 arrest, when he allegedly started an illegal campfire off Dog Bar Road.

• A three-day jury trial has been scheduled for Joseph Michael Gross, 22, of Chicago Park. Gross faces charges of assault with a firearm and for negligently discharging a firearm. He is accused of shooting a friend in the face with a rifle on Nov. 30, 2004. He reportedly thought the weapon was empty when he pointed it at the friend and pulled the trigger.

The trial is scheduled to start April 26, with an April 15 trial readiness conference and an April 1 pre-trial conference.



• A trial has been scheduled for Anthony Leroy Marquez, 36, of San Jose, who faces three charges of oral copulation on a minor and two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. The charges stem from an Aug. 20, 2004, arrest.

The trial is scheduled to start June 14, with a June 3 trial-readiness conference.




• Christopher Rex, 19, was sentenced March 11 to one year in jail and three years of probation for charges of petty theft and battery, stemming from a Nov. 27, 2004, arrest. Rex and Ryan Cetti punched a friend unconscious to get his medication.

• Jason Smith, of Grass Valley, was sentenced March 14 to 270 days in jail and five years of probation for charges of manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of the drug with the intent to sell it. The charges stemmed from a June 16, 2004, arrest.
