County switches accounting software

County staff successfully implemented new software this week, ensuring paychecks were recently issued accurately and on time to more than 1,200 employees. The payroll distribution is a bit more than $2 million and signals the first major move expected from investment in a more efficient financial accounting system.

The new accounting system includes modules for activities that interface and use accounting data in addition to payroll, such as budget preparation, position control and project accounting. It also has the capacity for department-specific uses, such as a land-use module tracking permits in the Community Development Agency.

The system will be used in the upcoming budget-preparation cycle and various modules will be phased in over the next six months.
