County honored at fairs convention

The Nevada County Fair took 14 first-place wins and two sweepstakes awards at the recent Western Fairs Association Convention in Reno.

The Nevada County Fair has won double sweepstakes awards four times since 1996.

“That’s certainly a record,” said Steve Chambers, WFA executive director. “It doesn’t happen often, and winning double sweeps four times is incredible. … It’s a great accomplishment.”

Sweepstakes awards are given in two categories: marketing and communications, and creative management. Wins in various segments are totaled to determine the sweepstakes winners.

The Nevada County Fair placed first in the marketing programs, themes, innovative management, new special event and most user-friendly exhibitor guidebook categories.

The fair also won 11 second-place awards, four third-place awards and six honorable mentions.

WFA represents 150 fairs in the western United States and Canada, including the Alaska and Hawaii state fairs and the Calgary Stampede.
