Contract to widen Highway 49 awarded to Teichert Construction

Caltrans has awarded a $6.7 million contract to Teichert Construction to widen Highway 49 from the Bear River bridge to the intersection of Wolf and Combie roads.

The stretch will be widened to four lanes, with a two-way left-turn lane in its center. Ornamental signal poles and street lights will be part of project, and Caltrans and the county are exploring the possibility of building a county gateway monument near the Bear River.

The contractors have 220 workdays to complete the project, and hope to begin this fall. The project is the first phase of a project that will widen Highway 49 from the Placer County line to Grass Valley.
