Consider the impact

The CYA Camp is being closed and replaced by a minimum security prison. All this has happened quietly and quickly in order that the local community would not have a chance to give their input on the matter.

Has anyone considered the impact that a minimum security prison would have on the local community? This prison would litterally be in my back yard and if the residents of Nevada County think about it, it would also be in everyone’s back yard. It is located in a heavily used recreation area, not to mention in what is now a large community of homes outside Nevada City.

I have no problem with the benefit of fire protection for this area but feel it could be just as well served with a much smaller civilian fire station than with a prison population of 110 felons with no fence around them. A schoolyard has better security than this. If other people have concerns such as mine please write The U.S Forest Service, 631 Coyote St., Nevada City, and your supervisors. There is going to be a supervisor meeting on Jan. 25 at the Rood Center on this issue.
