A legal competency hearing was delayed Thursday for the man charged with murder in the Jan. 6 auto collision that left a UPS driver dead.

The hearing was put off because one of the doctors assigned to determine whether defendant Scott Krause is mentally competent to understand the charges or stand trial for murder has not finished his report.

Public defender Gary Gordon appeared Thursday morning with Krause through a closed-circuit television feed from Wayne Brown Correctional Facility, just as in Krause’s previous hearing. The court appearance was brief, and a March 4 hearing date was scheduled.

He is accused of killing UPS delivery driver Drew Reynolds. Authorities say Krause carjacked a large commercial truck and rammed it into Reynolds’ van on Brunswick Road. Grass Valley police said Krause told them after the crash that his actions were intentional.

He is also charged with burglary, carjacking and battery for alleged crimes that led up to the crash. Krause also faces several probation-violation charges from previous drug convictions.
