Column raises concern

Mr. Struck (Other Voices, Jan. 26): How incredibly egocentric to think that we mere mortals can throw God out of our lives! I believe that the very fabric of our being is God and is in all living things.

And the founders of our Constitution could never have foreseen what it meant to assure our citizens the right to bear arms for example Do you think they could have fathomed the power of weaponry now available to all?

Could have they imagined what kind of speech they were protecting?

As we seek to interpret the Constitution written for an entirely different age we do our best to draw the fine line between the freedoms they sought to guarantee and our own personal responsibility to live an honorable life.

Your article implies that we should have ignored our children’s issues of self esteem, looked away at some of the issues of inappropriate discipline by teachers in the past, create laws forbidding what you consider to be immoral publications. From the very basic premise of Republicanism we don’t need more laws and regulations (unless it suits the moral majority) And if our children lack moral fiber what does that say about their home life? Should that be governed by more laws?

The article beneath yours is entitled: Light the fire within. Now there’s a concept!!
