Close border first

Any meaningful discussion about immigration reform must start with closing the wide-open Mexican border by whatever means necessary. Our government is 100 percent responsible for the 11 million illegal aliens now here because it has done nothing to stop them. The aliens are simply acting rationally; they have everything to gain and nothing to lose, and I’d do the same if I were a Mexican. If you’re upset about this, direct your anger at our spineless politicians who let it happen in the first place (all recent presidents, W. included, have failed miserably in this regard).

Since we’ve done nothing to stop illegal aliens, is it realistic to play hardball about granting them amnesty and citizenship? They profess eagerness to become full-fledged U.S. citizens. Fine, let’s call that bluff by making English the exclusive, official language of this country, locking the border down and enforcing existing immigration laws that have been totally ignored for decades. But if illegals are allowed to continue to swarm across the border unhindered, all this talk about “reform” is just empty rhetoric (which we all know it is anyway).
