Climate of fear still exists in Nevada County

I am the wife of Brent Packer, M.D., the former health officer of Nevada County. I am also a family practice physician and was looking into practicing in the area. However, our hopes of being a part of this wonderful community were shattered by the fact that the micromanagement practices is still pervasive in the Health Department. I am surprised that the story of my husband’s sudden resignation, Thursday, was not covered yet. He is the 10th public health officer to pass through the doors in 10 years. It seems that changing the system is not a priority on the management’s agenda. Neither is retaining a good public health officer who contributed so much to this community.
