Clean campaign a relief

The supervisorial campaigns seem to be proceeding without the intense rancor and name-calling we’ve seen in the past. That’s a relief! I’d hate to elect someone who would comfortably and publicly characterize others with epithets like, “effluvium-laden,” “meaningless braying of asses,” “leftist and left-leaning functionaries … spewing, to wretched excess, the same old misleading nonsense” – while complaining about “character assassination.” Unfortunately, those are all quotations from candidate Nate Beason’s 2002 columns in The Union. So for real relief, I’m voting for Olivia Diaz. (For more on this topic, see local weblog at, 2/17/04 post re “Straight Talk.”)
