Claim of rampant fraud and crime by law enforcement questioned

I am writing in response to some recent letters to the editor. I am currently a resident of the state of Kansas, but I lived in the Grass Valley area for 25 years. I stay in touch with the events of Nevada County by reading The Union online. On July 31, I read an opinion by a letter writer making claims of rampant fraudulent or criminal activity by law enforcement.

I work for my local sheriffs department in Kansas and at various times have heard similar claims. Of course, none of the claims were true. Most of what occurred was simply misunderstanding by the public .

I do not claim to be an expert on the law enforcement agencies in Nevada County, but I am sure that the letter writer and his compatriots are misinformed or uneducated about what occurs.

The letter writer should know that the FBI is not responsible for investigating local law enforcement. The California Attorney General’s office and the Department of Justice would be the agencies to perform investigations. The letter writer should support his local law enforcement and become better informed.
