Cheers for the band

This is in regard to Mr. Somerville finally being able to attend an NU football game (column, Sept. 18). Glad you were able to make it!

However, I want to clear something up: NU has a kickin’ marching band. Last year, we won several trophies, and our drumline won the championship. The reason you didn’t see us perform that night is simple ” the routine we’re doing this year was not quite ready. It’s also supposed to be a surprise.

Normally, we marching band members attend band camp for a week before school starts. This year, summer school didn’t let out until Aug. 5, the fair started the following Wednesday, and school started the following week. All of us in band work our tails off both after school and on weekends. You probably remember from your drumline days how difficult it is to memorize not only the music but the marching routine as well.

If you want to see the marching band “do it’s thing,” come to the game on Oct. 1. It will be a dress rehearsal of sorts before we head up to Reno the next morning for the McQueen High School Extravaganza. Hope to see you there.
