Check the air quality from home

As a mother of two small children, I am very grateful to all the folks giving their time and efforts to the new Save the Air in Nevada County group. It’s frightening how bad the air can get up here. But I want to share a resource I use to prevent my family from becoming prisoners in our house all summer.

If you go to the Spare the Air Web site (, you can look at a real-time ozone map. There have been bad air days where I’ve been able to let the kids play outside all morning, because the bad air didn’t get here until the afternoon. At least then, you can make decisions for the health of your kids based on real information.

When the Save the Air in Nevada County group gets its new ozone monitors up and running, we’ll have even more accurate information to help us keep our kids safe.
