Chechnya history

The evil and barbaric slaughter of Russian school children has left the world in a state of depressed shock. Bush has played it as more of those terrorist “evil doers” out there that his presidency will bring to justice.

Something this heinous and depraved rarely happens in a vacuum. Is this al-Qaeda and its Wahabbi Islamic extremists at work, or is this a systemic hatred of Russians that runs so deep that the perpetrators are emotionless zombies bent on suicidal revenge?

I do not have time in this letter to discuss the modern history of Chechnya, but to give you a sample, in 1944 Stalin in his paranoia deported by rail car 500,000 Chechens to Siberia and dumped them out on the frozen ground to fend for themselves. Half died. They were not allowed to return home until 1957 and the history since then has been one of discrimination, brutality, murder, and horrendous collateral damage caused by an undisciplined Russian military during the last 10 years (putting down an independence movement).

There is a valuable oil pipeline that runs through the country from the Caspian oil fields. There are a lot of zombies in Chechnya who have no problem accepting help from al-Qaeda and attacking Russians.
