Center celebrates first anniversary

The SPIRIT Mental Health Peer Empowerment Center is celebrating its first anniversary with a fund-raising party from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday in the home at 12276 Gates Place just behind Lyon’s Restaurant in Grass Valley.

Peer counselors at SPIRIT Center invite the public to enjoy live music, free juices, cookies, and karaoke singing. Peers will be selling plants and CDs, and original art.

Peer counselors organized in 1997 with the support of Nevada County Behavioral Health Department. They later created a nonprofit organization, SPIRIT Inc., and opened the doors of SPIRIT Center in April 2004.

All services are free. Peer counselors are volunteers. For more information, call David Lynott at SPIRIT Center, 274-1431.
