Candidate’s fanatical views aren’t wanted

Time to step back on to my schoolteacher’s soapbox. I am shocked and dismayed that Drew Bedwell is in a run-off for county supervisor. My distress comes from his extremist and even fanatical views. He has stated that he believes that there is a United Nations conspiracy driving the environmental movement in the U.S. And to make matters worse, he believes that Terry McAteer, our county superintendent of schools is part of this conspiracy!

Why? Because the county office provides resources on environmental education programs. What is Bedwell afraid of? Fifth graders at Deer Creek School raising salmon from eggs and then releasing them into our rivers? Third-graders at Nevada City School of the Arts charting the growth of different seeds and plotting them on a graph? NU students measuring the water quality of Deer Creek, the source of drinking water for many in our county?

Bedwell states that Yellowstone National Park belongs to the United Nations. What about Yosemite where I bring my 7th grade each year? We saw no blue-helmeted soldiers bearing the U.N. insignia there! Could any person be more paranoid?

Please, no more scare tactics. We deserve better than an Oliver Stone conspiracy theorist running our county. Having Bedwell as one of our supervisors would be an embarrassment.
