Candidate fund-raiser slated

Peter Camejo, Green Party candidate for governor, will attend a fund-raiser party in Nevada City from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the community room of the Madelyn Helling Library, near Rood Administrative Center.

Camejo, 61, is a first-generation Venezuelan-American who has been active in social and environmental issues since his teens. He marched in Selma, Ala., with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and was active against the Vietnam War. After winning a student council election at the University of California at Berkeley, he was suspended for “using an unauthorized microphone.”

Camejo has worked to defend the rights of Latino workers in the United States and to free political prisoners in Latin America.

There will be a question-and-answer period, and guests will share potluck. For more information, call 274-0360.
