Cancer in Nevada County

An American gold medal at the Olympic Games brings zealous citizens to their feet. “USA, we’re number one, we’re number one…”

Nevada County is also number one. The Union published an article on its front page following a statewide study giving our county the unique distinction of having the highest incidence of drug abuse among it’s teenage population of all California counties. Poor parenting? Schools?…Water?

Higher than California acceptable arsenic levels have been found in areas of our county’s ground water. We have considerably greater incidence of cancer and drug abuse in Nevada County. Connection? Can humans get “rabies” from drinking contaminated ground water?

How else do you explain the behavior of the leadership of Nevada Counties Republican Party? Through intimidation and personal threats to our superintendent of schools, democracy in Nevada County was compromised.

By referring to fellow county citizens as a “Peace group of Anti-American and al Quida Supporters” and their open public meeting as a “Traitorous activity” because they oppose war, is not only un-American, it dangerously resembles behavior of neo-conservatives in 1930s Germany. The chairman of the Republican Central Committee has tarnished himself and the credibility of Republican principles.
