Can you say ‘downsize’?

I, too, can’t believe Dave Vertin’s nerve to ask the City Council to bail him out and, on the other hand, I can’t believe the Nevada City City Council is even considering it. Who are they trying to kid?

I agree with those who want to bring back the other carriage company business. If Michelle Parnell’s Sierra Carriage company is unable to, then I am sure someone else would who could pay the fees. If Dave Vertin can’t pay the fees, it’s because at one time he flooded the streets with so many horses in an attempt to run Michelle out of town because of his own greed. Michelle stayed because this was her dream and passion to run and operate her own business. The City Council somehow, some way – because I did attend three of the meetings – turned Nevada City into a one-horse town. It sounds like Mr. Vertin needs to put the brakes on all the excess carriages, sell a few of his horses, and run the carriage business just like Michelle did by herself.

I also doubt very seriously that tourism is going to stop or even slow down in Nevada City because there are no carriage rides in town. People come to Nevada County for its historical history and its beauty, not for horse rides. Yes, the carriages do add a special charm to the streets, but I also know a lot of people including myself that would love to have some of their bills paid.
