Buying a president

Michael Toner, chief of the Federal Election Commission, recently opined that it will initially take over $100 million to be a viable 2008 presidential candidate. Your $100 contribution to your candidate of choice will be minuscule in comparison to the amounts that will buy our next president. Consequently, the public interests you wish your next president will adequately address will take a back seat (or no seat at all) to the interests (which are anything but public) of those buyers. The pharmaceutical, vehicle, weapons, oil, food, insurance, and other big industries will buy our next president. It works for them because you the voter will let it happen. You will not seriously consider any candidate who thinks outside the box who will make the decision not to buy ads meant to mislead you. You are willing to be mislead just so you can tout that you voted the party-line or voted against the other major candidate. Instead you will elect a president who doesn’t represent your (public) interests, doesn’t live in your real world, doesn’t make decisions that will benefit you. Instead you will receive rhetoric, and you’ll swallow it just like you always have. Try voting outside the box.

I cannot say enough good things about Yuba Docs, our urgent care facility in Grass Valley. Saturday about noon, a close relative had a close encounter with a chainsaw resulting in a pretty deep-looking gash…
