Buck should stop with Bush on war

Anyone who has served in the armed forces is well aware of traditional military knowledge and dictum that “the captain is master of the ship” and bears all responsibilities, decisions, actions and results. The same applies to an operating surgeon in the operation room regarding what befalls his patient.

Is it not proper and correct that Mr. George Bush Jr. [sic], when all is said and done, as the “captain” or the supreme commander in chief of American military forces, is responsible and accountable for the declaration of the preemptive war on Iraq and the immediate results of that action? Any attempt at the “glide, slide and hide” method of evasion of this responsibility needs to cease. There is no excuse to make a scapegoat of the CIA, the Brits, the Martians or the Abyssinians, let alone Mr. Hussein and Al-Qaida.

Mr. Harry S. Truman is well known for saying “the buck stops here,” and so it should be with Mr. George Bush Jr. regarding the Iraq war.
