Firefighters responded to a mobile home fire late Wednesday sparked by a faulty water heater on the 10000 block of Combie.

Higgins Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Jerry Good said the fire was reported at about 6:50 p.m. There was minimal damage, which he estimated at about $1,000.

“We saved it,” Good said Thursday. “It was right across the street, so that helped.”

He said a few neighbors also helped douse the flames with garden hoses.

Either a maintenance issue or a faulty burner was to blame for the malfunction, Good said.

“Make sure your heater is installed properly,” he advised.

A fight also broke out between mobile home owners at the scene of the fire, and firefighters had to call police. A 34-year-old woman was later arrested by a sheriff’s deputy at the mobile home park for fighting in a public place.
