Retired Air Force Lt. Col. David Moyer, author, clinical social worker, former employee of Nevada County Behavioral Health, will be presenting a workshop titled “Alternates to Mental Illness and Addictions” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Center for the Arts.
Moyer, who recently spoke at a community hearing regarding the expenditure of $1 million to improve mental health care (see http://www.bipolarodyssey.com/proposal.htm), will be discussing how nutrients and direct treatment of risk factors, including chronic infections can offer more effective treatment for mental disorders and addictions.
He is the author of the book “Too Good to be True? Nutrients Quiet the Unquiet Brain.” The workshop costs $20 per person and $30 per family. The public is invited. For more information and registration call 432-4863.
set for Saturday
Safe Kids Nevada County in cooperation with Sierra Nevada Children’s Services will hold free child safety seat inspections from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Sierra College, Nevada County Campus, in association with Day of the Young Child.
Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will perform inspections and train parents and caregivers to install and adjust their car seats properly. An inspection is free and usually takes 20 to 30 minutes. Bring your child, the owner’s manuals for your vehicle and your car seat.
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading killer of children under 14 nationally. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 73 percent of all child passenger restraints – more than 80 percent of car seats and about 40 percent of booster seats – are used incorrectly.
To find a car seat inspection site or certified technician near you, call Noll at 272-8866.
