Hospital to sponsor blood drive

The Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will be sponsoring a community blood drive on March 2, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Grass Valley United Methodist Church.

Appointments are not necessary.



Donors are advised to eat, drink plenty of fluids and have photo identification. Donations may be taken from ages 17 or older – 16 with parental consent.

The church is located at 236 S. Church St in Grass Valley.




Alzheimer’s disease class set for March

A free class on “Prevention of Memory Loss” will be offered through the Wellness Center at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, March 23, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The class, taught by Victoria Johnston, program manager for the Alzheimer’s Outreach Project, will held in the hospital’s Outpatient Center conference area. It will focus on the top 10 things one can do to prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s and memory loss. To register, call 274-6824.

Other classes being offered in March include:

“Taking Charge of Diabetes,” by Laura Seeman, R.D., on March 1, 8 and 15 from 9 a.m. to noon. Fee is $75.

“The ABCs of Joyful Living,” by Sahaja Sims, March 3 and 10 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. (last two sessions of a series). Fee $8.50 per class.

“My Mom’s Having a Baby,” by Wendy Paye, R.N., on March 8 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Free.

“Living Well With Asthma – Adults & Children,” by Marilyn Morton, RT, and Cheryl Moore, R.T. on March 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Free.
