Bennett Street closed Friday

On Friday, downtown Grass Valley’s Bennett Street will be closed to through traffic at Main Street from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. as crews excavate for signal light foundations. Access to all businesses in the area will be maintained at all times.

Drivers are asked to watch for detours and pay attention to all road signs and flag persons while in this area.

Rodeo plans move forward

The Penn Valley Community Rodeo Association met Monday to continue organizing a rodeo to be held May 21 and 22, 2005.

After this year’s rodeo was cancelled, a revitalized event was planned for next year to be managed by a community-based association. The Penn Valley fire department will serve as host, with the rodeo located on its grounds at Penn Valley Drive and Spenceville Road.

The Penn Valley Community Rodeo Association has announced that opportunities to sponsor the event are available. Interested companies should contact Patti Wilkins at 432-2409.

The next planning meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 7, at a site to be announced.

New stop signs installed

The California Department of Transportation installed stop signs and pavement markings Tuesday on Gold Flat Road at the Golden Center Freeway interchange between Grass Valley and Nevada City.

Motorists traveling in both directions on Gold Flat Road will now be required to stop at the eastbound on and offramps to Highway 20. Motorists are asked to be alert to the new signs and pavement markings.
