The Nevada City council voted 4-1 to uphold the City Planning Commission’s decision to deny the request for a 36-square-foot sign for the New York Hotel at a city council meeting on Jan. 23.

The council, however, liked the new design but urged the applicant to conform to the size specifications, City Manager Mark Miller said.
