BriarPatch has benefits

To answer the question of why The BriarPatch Community Market is a huge improvement over Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods chains is easy. If one wants to receive discounts they can become an Owner/Member. We can order bulk foods at cost plus 10 percent to save even more money. However, for me, being an Owner/Member is not just about getting a “cheaper” deal. The BriarPatch orders products from as many local businesses as possible. Local farmers and entrepreneurs benefit from these sales. A community fund offers grants to local organizations. Products purchased from outside our community are carefully selected to make sure we are supporting other cooperatives who receive fair wages and are growing their products in a sustainable manner (without being genetically modified). Our community is connected to the larger world. When one is a member of a co-op it is not just about getting the low cost foods and products, it is about being part of building community, and helping it to grow in a healthy, sustainable way. Check out the BriarPatch newsletter (free at the counter) to read more about how the store benefits our community through its consumer education, events, as well as monthly sale items.
