Big picture

I was also alarmed by the letter (“What this is about,” June 8) telling us that we need to keep the big picture in mind when we judge the horrible things our country has done in Iraq.

He tells us that that big picture includes the orphans created by the destruction of World Trade Towers or the brutal execution of Daniel Pearl. Iraq had nothing to do with Sept. 11 or Daniel Pearl’s murder in Pakistan. Period. Bush has stated it in his speeches.

I understand we sweep up innocents in Iraq, don’t give their families any information, never charge them with anything, torture them to rat on others, take sexual pictures of them and threaten to expose them to their community, hoping to “turn them” into our informants.

This is the behavior of we would expect from one who thinks that any means justifies their end. Bringing Jeffersonian democracy to the Iraqi people? I don’t think so.
