Best audiences in the world

I have been incredibly blessed to perform for the last 10 years at Off Broadstreet Theatre in Nevada City.

It has truly been an extended family place for my husband, my children and me. My daughter has worked there for nine years. My oldest son performed for five years of “Angry Housewives,” which happens to be our current show. My husband, Chris, is also in the current production.

The list of close friends and colleagues we have made there are too many to number. The good times, laughs and tears also too many and too big to count. On many occasions, we are asked by only too-kind patrons why we don’t take our shows on the road or to bigger venues or why we, as performers, don’t aspire to something “bigger.” The last two weeks can answer that.

Our hearts are immeasurably grateful to so many: The friends and customers who showed up on the day of the fire, with food, drinks, boxes and helping hands. The never-ending offers of assistance from directors, actors and volunteers from our surrounding family of theatre companies. Those of you who never even gave us your name, but were there to carry chairs, tables, props and costumes out of a smoldering building. All of you who helped organized and gave to the Nevada City Fire Relief Fund, and of course, the firefighters who risked their lives to save what they could. We are so grateful to have saved so much. All of us at Off Broadstreet will never forget your kindness and generosity. We have once again been reminded of the incredible community we live in, and how lucky we are to work, play, and raise our kids here.

So, why don’t we want “bigger and better”? Truly, we are already playing to the best audiences in the world.
