Bedwell: the frightening facts

Bedwell, a conspiracy theorist, believes a U.N. conspiracy embodies Nevada County schools – claiming children are exposed to “quasi-religious” and communal thinking (his e-mail March 6). His web claim (Dec. 18) “Did you know Yellowstone belongs to the United Nations”? His Web site is linked with “Nazi Model for Education,” which equates community service to Hitler’s Youth Camps and “Harry Potter Lures Kids to Witchcraft.”

Bedwell an extremist. He publicly claimed, “Environmentalists are at least evil …” He has attacked the following: All “Friends of” organizations, which would include Friends of the Library, Friends of Nevada City, Friends of Grass Valley, Friends of Hospice … and specifically assaulted the Sierra Nevada Alliance, Sierra Club, all Land Trusts, South River Citizen’s League, Rural Quality Coalition, Sierra Business Council, Audubon Society and KVMR.

Bedwell uses fighting words. In a speech entitled “His Supporters vs. Environmental Community” to the Republican Central Committee (who endorse him) he stated, “We are in a state of War” (aired on FCAT).

Bedwell demonstrates and verbalizes no tolerance for differing opinions, divisiveness, stereotyping and uses fighting words.

He and supporters have called me a communist, socialist and extremist – yet he refused to speak with me outside a community meeting because “you seem like you’re not with us.”

Bedwell has been compared to McCarthy, but he’s more dangerous; he has convicted me and many in Nevada County without even a trial!

I felt compelled to write because I fear his extremism, rigidity, name calling, slandering and stereotyping demonstrates inappropriateness for public office!

So if you recycle ( remember – can’t tell if it’s because of your commitment to the environment or to lessen your garbage cost) you may have been pegged as an “environmentalist,” or if you are a regular citizen and either supported Wild and Scenic or are a “Friend of …” support Land Trusts (which gain voluntary donations of lands/easements) you’re in the out crowd and won’t be listened to.

Let’s keep moderation and reasonableness in the Board of Supervisors.
