Be vigilant to prevent unfair taxation

Somewhere in the recent past a deceptive group of bureaucrats hatched a scheme to raise taxes without facing the wrath of the voting public. They found a method to unfairly increase the property taxes of a small minority, thinking this could get by without too much notice.

Tax assessors across the state considered this plan. Some disregarded it altogether while others decided to fudge on the intent of Proposition 13 just a bit.

The Nevada County appointed tax assessor decided to use this idea to the fullest extent possible in order to fatten our local government’s coffers, and sweeten the administration’s bottom line. Thus, many received unconscionable raises in their property taxes.

The Nevada County Board of Supervisors announced that the tax assessor would be on their agenda sometime in February.

This should concern all property owners. If one segment of property owners can be unfairly assessed, everyone may be in future jeopardy.

Watch for the date in February when this is on the supervisors’ agenda. If you have any questions about the group opposed to these unfair taxes, call 274-0662.
