Assembly ignores pro-life rally

A pro-life rally Jan. 22 at the Capitol in Sacramento was attended by hundreds who called for respect of life from conception to natural death and for the end of abortions. The rally reflected the opinion of the majority of people who feel that abortion is the inhuman termination of a child’s life.

But the politicians don’t get it. California’s Democrat-controlled State Assembly passed a resolution, AJR 57, urging Americans to “celebrate” abortion and the Roe vs. Wade decision. Several Republicans spoke against the resolution. Jay La Suer, R-La Mesa, said: “I don’t think we need to celebrate the deaths of 43 million people, albeit shall we say the murder of 43 million people. Those of you that want to celebrate this wouldn’t even be able to celebrate it if your mothers believed in it – because you might not even be here!”

Most Americans see abortion as an evil. A poll by Zogby0 International in December 2003 found that 53 percent of Americans agree with this statement: “Abortion destroys a human life and is manslaughter.” The Elliot Institute’s poll found that most women who had an abortion consider it to be an ugly, painful memory with emotional problems.
