Architect’s life to be honored

The Historic Buildings Alliance will celebrate architect Julia Morgan’s life and work at a 10 a.m. Saturday meeting in the clubhouse on the grounds of Empire Mine State Historic Park.

Supervisor Bruce Conklin will convene the meeting, and the public is invited. Birthday cake and refreshments will be served at 11 a.m.

Linda Cole, U.S. Forest Service site director, will discuss restoration of the Tallac Historic Site, a section of U.S.F.S. lakefront property in South Lake Tahoe that consists of the Baldwin Museum, Pope House and Valhalla.

Also scheduled for discussion is an update on the North Star House (designed by Morgan), a report from the Grant Writing Committee and the county’s application for Proposition 12 grant funds.

A tour of the park grounds will be conducted at the conclusion of the meeting at 12:30 p.m. Attendees are invited to bring a brown bag lunch for the tour.
