Anti-Semitism views

Just as the label “unpatriotic” is occasionally tacked on to those questioning policies of the current Bush administration in Washington, so, too, are critics of the illegal occupation of Palestine by Israel accused of being “anti-Semitic” by some apologists for the actions of the Sharon government. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be an easy litmus test for determining whether points of view grow out of fundamental prejudices or are grounded in deeper principled understandings.

For an alternative Jewish perspective on anti-Semitism, I suggest one read “Reframing Anti-Semitism,” which can be ordered at The Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) also provides, through weekly updates, other views of the ongoing human tragedy experienced by both sides in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

Meanwhile, here are a few figures compiled by the U.N. since the year 2000 and reported recently in Ha’aretz: 3,437 Palestinians killed, 33,770 injured; 942 Israelis killed, 9,008 injured; 1,497 Palestinian homes destroyed, leaving 15,000 people homeless; 167 Palestinian building complexes destroyed, leaving an additional 2,066 people homeless.
