Anti-Semitic mischief

Mr. Dick Tracy’s anti-Israel and anti-Semitic column of June 4 is a mix of self-acknowledged ignorance and mischief. Bin Laden, inspired by Reagan’s pullout from Lebanon and Clinton’s from Somalia, attacked the Trade Towers to get us out of Arabia, where he hopes to establish a fundamentalist Islam.

If Israel were to be extinguished, al-Qaida’s activities would be undiminished. Arafat, in fact, is not fundamentalist enough and has bitterly complained that bin Laden has shown no interest in helping him. Do the attacks in Spain, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia fit into your world view, Mr. Tracy?

Ehud Barak demonstrated to all fair-minded persons that Arafat does not want to negotiate a peace settlement. Even Rabin, when Arafat said he could not control the terrorists, expressed frustration that he had no negotiation partner.

That Jews control the government and the media (step aside, Rupert Murdoch) is a favorite mantra of the anti-Semites, who would have us believe that the Jewish 3 percent of the population have awesome and sinister powers to jerk around the 97 percent who are knuckleheads, with just a few clear-eyed Tracys to sound the alarm.

So some of your best friends are Jews, Mr. Tracy? How do you keep them?
