Another storage facility?

Was it my imagination? As I drove north on 49 yesterday, did I see yet another self-storage rising from the ground? Could it be?

I have barely recovered from seeing the trees plowed down and the entrance to Alta Sierra changed to accommodate rows of garages. Now, in case you don’t live close enough to the nine other self-storages in Grass Valley alone, you have yet another choice! And you can’t miss them, springing up next to the freeway as they are.

Normally, I try to steer clear from sarcasm in my opinion letters, but this is a stretch. Residents of Grass Valley and our planning commission, please hear me! Please make aesthetic and intelligent choices. I know certain areas are “zoned” for commercial use, but we can still choose with a vision for the future that will keep this area beautiful. Countless small California towns have done it – can’t we?

Homeowners, these choices affect, if nothing else, your property value. Because of smart planning decisions in another small Northern California town, our family sold a home that rose in value 150 percent in five years. Don’t passively let these decisions be made. They affect us!

Please guard this area’s beauty.
