Anniversary – Welker

Charlene and Wilbur Welker of Nevada City celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary recently. They were married Jan. 13, 1940 in New Concord, Ohio.

Eighty-four friends and family members gathered at the North San Juan Senior Center to honor the couple with a celebratory dinner.

The Welkers’ children are Glenna Shields and Randy Welker, both of Nevada City, Marcena Welker of Susanville and LeAtha Welker of North San Juan.



There are nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Welker is retired from the U. S. Forest Service. His current interests include volunteering with the North Gold Country Senior Mountaineers, North San Juan A.I.C., the Food Bank and V.F.W.-D.A.V., American Legion.




Mrs. Welker is also retired from the U.S. Forest Service. In addition to participation in the organizations listed above, Mrs. Welker is an artist and an author.

The Welkers have lived in Nevada County for 59 years.
